Every year all across the country women joggers are targeted for attack by those who are looking for what they consider an easy target for their crimes. These attackers and rapists know that these women are most often wearing headphones and usually not carrying pepper spray or other forms of self defense. For women who do not want to be just another victim of these crimes should consider self defense training that will teach them how to fight their way out of a bad situation and prevent rapes and so much more.
While many of these women will attend a local self defense class that lasts a few hours or maybe a couple of nights this is really not effective training for truly fighting off an attacker. These classes, while better than no training at all, can be lacking since they do not last long enough to teach many situations and skills to get out of trouble.
For the jogger martial arts self defense training can be the ideal way to protect yourself from attack to prevent a crime. Continued training will ensure that the moves needed to fight off that attacker will be effective should you ever need them. This training will also help as a form of cross training to perfectly compliment their running habit to help these women have a overall healthy lifestyle.
This self defense training should not only include the physical moves and techniques to fight off an attacker but also the skills to help avoid the attack in the first place. Teaching awareness of surroundings that a jogger can carry over to choosing their route can go a long way to keep the attack from happening in the first place.

We all hear everyday how stress is bad for us and that we have too much of it in our lives affecting our health and how we live. Stress too can also affect just how we will react in many situations and for the case of self defense it can be helpful or it can be hurtful depending on the person. While some people react beautifully when under attack and the flight or fight response kicks in and helps them to be stronger and faster to use their self defense training others get an opposite reaction.
For some people stress can make their bodies lose the ability to control some of their fine muscle groups. The mind too can blank out and even though maybe some self defense moves are known by the victim the mind just cannot recall them. So how do you combat this and ensure that you will be able to fight off the bad guy one day if your life depends on it?
Those that train their bodies and their minds will be able to handle the stress and not let it affect them the point they cannot perform the moves and techniques needed to ward off an attack. Consistent martial arts training though will help place the moves and techniques though into your muscle memory and this will help your body recall them almost automatically without much thought from you. We all have seen people who literally respond with a punch or other move when startled, these are the ones who have spent enough time training to commit these moves to memory to use them without hardly any thought at all.

One of the biggest things that most people learn first in their self defense training is to stay off the ground when fighting off an attacker. While it is not always possible to follow this rule of thumb if at all possible most individuals should avoid grappling type situations. The reason for this of course is it takes away any maneuvering room while it also gives the advantage to the bigger person which most often is the attacker.
For those especially who rely on a form of martial arts for their self defense grappling takes away most all of the skills and techniques they have for fighting off an attacker. Most martial arts styles are based on punches and kicks that are done from the standing position making them ineffective once the ground comes into play. Since these are sport styles of fighting traditionally when one combatant ends up on the ground the fight is stopped to allow them to get back up. This will not happen in a attack situation with a bad guy.
Most forms of military self defense incorporate moves and techniques for grappling both while standing as well as once on the ground. These styles are designed for soldiers who are fighting for their lives as well and just like street scenes the fight will sometimes end up on the ground. While it is best to just stay off the ground so that you have more options to protect yourself and get out of the situation for those times when the fight for your life ends up in a ground grappling situation do whatever it takes to get loose and get back to your feet to gain the advantage back from your attacker.
